In my daily work, I can be considered an Oracle and MySQL database optimization expert. Recently, I embarked on the journey to validate my expertise by pursuing Oracle Certified Professional Oracle Database 19c: Performance Management and Tuning Certification (exam code is 1z0-084). Although the process was not smooth, I eventually passed the exam. Here, I’d like to share the process with you all.
Based on online search, this exam held a reputation for being a real challenge, with even seasoned professionals falling short. Confident in my Oracle performance tuning experience, I initially thought it wouldn’t be a significant challenge. After researching the exam requirements on the official website, I decided to prepare by carefully reading the following relevant official documentation:
- Database 2 Day + Performance Tuning Guide
- Database Performance Tuning Guide
- Database In-Memory Guide
- SQL Tuning Guide
- Oracle Database Testing Guide
Feeling well-prepared after reviewing these materials twice, I went to take the exam with confidence. However, the outcome was humbling:

I underestimated the difficulty. The exam covered a wide range of topics, and the questions were very detailed, even testing the parameters of certain stored procedures, caught me off guard. Realizing my mistake, I revisited the aforementioned documents with a laser focus on the exam topics. My efforts bore fruit this time:

I emerged victorious, this certification provides valuable validation of my expertise.
